UPGRADE WINDSOR STATION
CAMPAIGN UPDATE! Our campaign to upgrade Windsor station has received a positive boost, with funding to plan for a second entrance in the 2021 state budget.
Thanks to everyone who has been part of the campaign so far - when we work together we get results!
There is still more to achieve, so please join our local campaign for further upgrades today.
A good local train station is critical to the liveability of any community, and Windsor station is right in the heart of the Windsor community.
In response to my local survey, hundreds of commuters suggested several important but relatively low-cost and achievable upgrades to the station, all whilst maintaining the station’s important heritage status.
Windsor station is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register because of its architectural and historical significance to the state of Victoria and I am committed to ensuring its heritage status is preserved as I advocate for future upgrades.
I have raised the suggested upgrades directly with the Minister for Public Transport in state parliament. You can read her response here.
Your voice is being heard. Let’s keep the pressure on to secure upgrades to Windsor station.
Survey results
The most popular upgrades were:
Increasing train frequency on the Sandringham line
Currently there are about eight trains an hour running during peak hour and long waits of 15 minutes during the day and 20 minutes during the weekend. I’m pushing for more peak-hour services as well as trains running at least every 10 minutes on the weekend and during the day.
Second entrance at the western end of the station
This would be a very easy-to-implement upgrade that would greatly benefit residents in the western half of Windsor, having travelled through Windsor siding. Windsor siding has recently been upgraded by the local council and a second entrance would be a welcome contribution by the state government.
Tenant in the empty station building
The station building has been out of use for many years and many residents would now like to see it put to community use. I will lobby the government to renovate the internal building and proactively seek a tenant. Your voice is being heard. Let’s keep the pressure on to secure upgrades to Windsor station.
Advocating for upgrades
At the end of July I wrote to the Minister for Public Transport and City of Stonnington Mayor advocate for actions highlighted by the community.
