VET funding system must change
MEDIA RELEASE
Sam Hibbins, Victorian Greens TAFE and Training spokesperson has called for an urgent change to the funding of Vocational Education and Training (VET).
“Victoria’s Vocational Education and Training system has degenerated into a get rich quick scheme, ripping off Victorian students and taxpayers.”
“Rorting of the VET system has been going on for years and is the consequence of the uncapped, unregulated market for vocational education and training system reforms introduced in 2008 by the former Labor Government and escalated by the former Liberal/National Government.“
“In the 2012 the Victorian Greens moved for an inquiry into the misuse of government training subsidies, substandard training and the effectiveness of oversight on financial accountability and training standards.”
“Such an inquiry could have exposed this scandal and prevented the ongoing misuse of public money but was blocked by the then Liberal/National Government.”
“Both federal and state governments must now abandon the market contestability and the VET FEE-HELP model and commit to a funding model that prioritises our public TAFE system.”
