Mr HIBBINS — There is a lot of excitement in our community as progress toward the opening of the new Prahran high school continues. The new school has come a long way in the last four years, from securing a location and getting the extra funding required to construction, which is now taking shape on High Street. We now welcome the appointment of the new principal, Nathan Chisholm, who is engaging closely with our community. This school has been a real community effort, particularly by the School for Prahran community group and the new school planning group. It certainly has been one of my top priorities as the local MP. I look forward to further progress towards the school opening in 2019.
Mr HIBBINS (Prahran) — I rise to speak on the budget on behalf of the Victorian Greens. It is unfortunate that this budget has been handed down under a cloud — over this government and over this Parliament — because of this government's failure to do what is necessary and what is right about the rorting of the second home allowance by the former Speaker and Deputy Speaker.Read more
Mr Hibbins to ask the Minister for Education —
My constituency question is to the Minister for Education, and I ask: what is the latest information on the new Prahran High School? Many constituents have expressed to me that they are impressed with the recently released designs for the new school, which will house 650 students over four storeys, incorporating recreation and green space within those buildings. Demolishing the existing building and building a new purpose built school was something the local community had been advocating for, and it was glad to see the designs for the new school.Read more

Mr HIBBINS (Prahran) — (11 946) My constituency question is to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. What is the government's plan to ensure safe pedestrian access for students between Prahran station and the new Prahran High School? A number of constituents have raised with me safety concerns regarding commuters crossing High Street from Prahran station and the adjacent tram stop. With Prahran High School having a capacity of 650 students and due to open in 2019, the danger of pedestrians crossing High Street from Prahran station will only get greater.Read more
Mr HIBBINS (Prahran) — (Question 7079) I recently asked Prahran residents what constituency question they would like me to ask in Parliament. Unsurprisingly the most popular topic for questions was regarding the new Prahran state secondary school. On behalf of Katie, Justin, Carissa, Katie, Tina, Kim, Morag, Geraldine and Helen, I ask the Minister for Education: what is the latest information regarding the new Prahran state secondary school? Specifically, residents would like to know when construction will start and what the finish date will be so they can plan for the secondary education of their primary school-age children; details of the funding commitment and whether a new school is fully funded; and how physical exercise will be accommodated on the school site at the old Swinburne University site.
QUESTION ON NOTICE — Mr Hibbins to ask the Minister for Education —
Has an agreement been reached between the Victorian Government and Swinburne University for the sale, lease and/or use of land for the Prahran State Secondary School at the former Swinburne Prahran Campus.
The Minister for Education: I am informed as follows:
The Department of Education and Training is negotiating with Swinburne University for the purchase or lease of building PA on the Swinburne Prahran Campus. To facilitate these negotiations and at the request of both groups, a valuation of the property has recently been completed by the Valuer-General. We hope to come to a formal agreement once all relevant matters have been discussed.
The Hon James Merlino MP
Minister for Education

Mr HIBBINS (Prahran) — My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Education, and the action I seek is for the minister to meet with the State High School for Prahran community group. This is a newly formed group of parents who are championing the idea of a new state secondary school for the Prahran electorate.Read more
Mr HIBBINS (Prahran)—I recently organised a round table of local school principals, teachers, school council members and parents to discuss the new Prahran state secondary school. We were joined by the CEO of Melbourne Polytechnic, Rob Wood, who shared his vision for the Prahran campus and the potential of having the secondary school on the site as part of a creative educational hub. Local parents are passionate about having a high-quality state secondary school in the Prahran community and welcome the government’s commitment to build the new school.Read more
