In the news: Represent on SYN Radio

Over the weekend I spoke to Represent on SYN about my take on the state budget, progress on the Prahran State Secondary School and my notice of motion in parliament to support marriage equality. Listen to my interview here.

My budget reply

It is a real privilege to be able to talk on the Appropriation (2015-2016) Bill 2015 not only in order to give a budget reply but also to outline the vision of the Greens. We are not here to be just a second opposition; we are here to set a high standard and outline our clear vision for Victoria. Our vision is based on fairness, opportunity and equality with an economy that is clean, smart and innovative and that creates meaningful jobs.

Call for Victorian Parliament to support marriage equality

MEDIA RELEASEThursday, May 28th 2015 Victorian Greens LGBTI spokesperson Sam Hibbins has called on the State Government to debate and support a motion supporting marriage equality.

Second Reading: Crimes Amendment (Repeal of Section 19A) Bill 2015

Mr HIBBINS (Prahran) — I rise to speak on the Crimes Amendment (Repeal of Section 19A) Bill 2015, which the Greens welcome into this house. This bill seeks to repeal section 19A of the Crimes Act 1958, which was brought in in 1993 and which makes it an offence to intentionally infect another person with HIV.

Inaugural Speech

Congratulations, Speaker, on your appointment. I will first say how honoured I am to be here as the member for Prahran, and how proud I am to be one of the first-ever Greens elected to the Legislative Assembly, alongside the member for Melbourne. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Prahran electorate and on which this Parliament sits, the Boon Wurrung and members of the Kulin nation, and I pay my respects to their elders past and present.
