No Punt Road Widening

The Punt Road Acquisition Overlay has been in place for over 60 years to reserve land for the purpose of widening Punt Road to become a 6 lane highway cutting through our community.

Widening Punt Road would be:

  • Expensive – $500 Million estimated cost
  • Destructive – 130 Properties bulldozed including homes and heritage buildings
  • Pointless – Massive 65% Increase in traffic with only negligible improvement in travel times

The state government currently has a planning panel looking at removing, amending or retaining the overlay.

Punt Road and the surrounding area is not just a road that people drive through, that needs to be widened at all costs; it is a community where people live, go to school, play in parks, walk along and visit family in hospital or in aged-care homes.

It’s time the state government removed the Punt Road Acquisition Overlay and protected our local community from an expensive, destructive and pointless road widening.
