As a progressive politician I would have thought choosing between protecting trans and gay students and teachers and supporting Scott Morrison would be a pretty easy decision, yet disgracefully the Liberals’ religious discrimination bill passed federal Parliament last night with the help of Labor and so-called moderate Liberals. Protecting LGBTI students and teachers from discrimination has been a passion of mine since I was first elected, and it was so pleasing to see that we got legislation and change here at the state level last year. The fact that this could be overridden and undermined and the hard-won gains of the LGBT communities here in Victoria could be overridden by federal legislation is absolutely appalling. This needs to stop. Equality must be for all.

Question without Notice: Phase out coal

Mr HIBBINS (Prahran): My question is to the Premier. Victoria’s three coal-fired power stations are currently Victoria’s biggest source of climate pollution, and the Loy Yang power plants are licensed by the government to operate for another 2½ decades. Premier, why doesn’t the government have a clear, transparent time line...
