Greens MP for Prahran Sam Hibbins as slammed the state government’s decision not to fund an upgrade to South Yarra station in this year’s state budget.

South Yarra Station is the busiest non-CBD station and is struggling to serve over 13,000 commuters, after years of neglect by both Labor and Liberal state governments combined with rapid population growth in the area.

Quotes from Sam Hibbins MP

“South Yarra station is the most neglected station in Melbourne. Labor is continuing on years of neglect by successive state governments by failing to fund an upgrade to South Yarra station in this year’s state budget.”

“Commuters at South Yarra station suffer from a congested single entrance, overcrowded trains and trams and unsafe pedestrian crossings. I challenge the Minister Public Transport to visit South Yarra station during peak hour to witness these problems first hand and listen to commuters. “

“Over 1,300 commuters signed my petition to upgrade South Yarra Station. My recent survey found that commuters top priorities for an upgrade to the existing station were a northern entrance with a platform overpass, an expanded front foyer, a safe pedestrian crossing on Yarra Street along with retaining the stations heritage character “

Adjournment Matter Revitalising Our Shopping Strips

Mr. Hibbins (Prahran): My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Industry Support and Recovery, and the action I seek is for the minister to establish a unit within the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions dedicated to revitalising our shopping strips across Victoria. Our local shopping strips need revival. They...

Public Transport should be accessible for all everyone

A damning Auditor-General report released today has revealed the Department of Transport will not meet its legislated targets for accessible tram infrastructure.   In 2018-19 alone, only 15 per cent of tram services delivered a low-floor tram at a level-access stop.   Victorian Greens spokesperson for transport, Sam Hibbins, said...
