Greens say Liberals can't be trusted with LGBTI equality

Greens equality spokesperson Sam Hibbins says a vow by the Victorian opposition to abandon the Safe Schools program will put young people at risk.

“The Liberals plan to axe the Safe Schools program is yet another reason why they can’t be trusted with LGBTI Equality," Sam Hibbins said.

“Safe Schools saves lives and without it same-sex attracted and transgender young people will be at greater risk of bullying and discrimination.

“The Shadow Education Minister’s excuse that the program is 'damaged' and 'politicised' with a 'fringe ideological agenda' is shameful.

“It's been the far right-wing of the Liberal Party that has sought to politicise and damage Safe Schools.

“Last month in my budget reply speech I questioned whether the Safe Schools program would be supported under any future coalition government.

“We now have an answer, the Liberals will put young people at risk," Sam Hibbins said.

Mr HIBBINS: My question is for the Minister for Housing. Minister, Azra has lived in South Yarra’s public housing towers for 17 years. In that time her home has never been upgraded. She is forced to stuff old newspapers to fill gaps in the windows to keep the cold out,...

Adjournment: Rent controls

My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, and the action I seek is for the minister to protect renters with controls on rents, improved standards and more secure leases. Around 60 per cent of people in Prahran are renters, and renters need a fair...
