Mr HIBBINS (Prahran) — My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing, and the action I seek is for the minister to have security doors installed in the public housing towers at the corner of Malvern Road, Surrey Road and Wicklow Lane, South Yarra, on every unit that currently does not have one.

These units were recently built through funding from the former federal government as part of the economic stimulus package. However, these new units do not have security doors, which are standard on older dwellings in public housing estates. Local residents report that they feel unsafe, with the main entry doors to the building often broken, allowing entry to non-residents. There are also concerns about some residents within the towers themselves.

Currently residents must reach a high threshold to have a security door installed by demonstrating a documented direct threat to their safety or a psychological condition which would justify the need for a security door. This is both impractical and unnecessary. I urge the minister to install security doors on all dwellings to allow residents to feel safe and secure in their own homes.

I ask the Treasurer what action, if any, the government is...
