Victorian Greens MPs, Sam Hibbins MLA, Nina Springle MLC, and Samantha Dunn MLC gathered at Dandenong’s Bombardier factory today, to call on the government to commit to ordering an additional 50 trams as part of their contract options with Bombardier.

Melbourne’s population is growing by more than 1,800 people each week,” said Samantha Dunn, MLC for Eastern Metropolitan Melbourne and Greens’ Spokesperson for transport.

“With more and more commuters using public transportation to get around, our trams are bursting at the seams- something must be done.”

Nina Springle, MP for the South Eastern Metropolitan region (including Dandenong) said “It’s time for the government to step up and secure the additional 50 trams to create 500 local jobs in high skilled manufacturing and supply chains.”

Member for Prahran Sam Hibbins, said that, “An order of an additional 50 trams will help fix overcrowding as well as make tram travel more accessible for elderly passengers, people living with a disability and those travelling with prams.”
